Mandy Pattullo returns to Le Manoir this Autumn with three very different workshops to be delivered over 4 days. You will learn so much  through working on projects which encompass collage, old fabrics and pure stitched drawing.

Mandy is fascinated with Boro textiles from Japan and on the first day we will work with this type of rough patchwork which was originally done because of poverty and limitation of materials. You too will have the limitation of working in a blue palette but using a pack of materials put together by Mandy including vintage textiles and pieces of quilt. She will show you how to put together a boro inspired piece and which stitches to use on the surface to emulate the sashiko style stitching done in Japan on this type of textile.

On the second day we turn to a different textile tradition -  that of the red and white embroidered quilts from the nineteenth and early twentieth century in  USA. Mandy is giving this a French twist and you will be working on to an old French torchon using inspiration from the animal and bird world. You can bring images but Mandy will provide lots of her original drawings that you can use.

For the third project we turn a little sentimental. You will use a photograph of a loved one in the centre of a collage which might also contain text. You could  use a found image if  you prefer. Mandy will transfer ONE image on to fabric for you to use and you will work on to a beautiful base of tea dyed antique damask.

There must be something in there for everyone! Mandy is an enthusiastic and generous tutor who will share with you many beautiful examples and encourage you to create three unique pieces of work from the her starting points. This course is for anyone who loves hand stitching. No experience necessary.

I will provide translation of instructions if required.

Don’t be disappointed if the course is full, there is a waiting list, as sometimes a few cancellations make other students happy :)
