Mandy Pattullo returns to Le Manoir in 2025 with a series of inspirational workshops which will be delivered over 4 days. You will learn so much through working on projects which encompass textile collage, patchwork,  appliqué and embroidery.

Mandy is fascinated by the stories old textiles tell and the  textile objects held by museums  which demonstrate   their importance to women in their daily lives.. Using your own collection of both treasured old textiles, and some new  fabrics too,  we will in this course be referencing  two historical textile traditions and reinterpreting them . The huswif ( or sewing roll)  was  used mostly for  storing sewing notions and we will look at the way these were constructed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries  but Mandy will reveal that they can also be used for other  beautiful items that you can collect maybe at our visit to a brocante and put your personal stamp on. 

The other starting point will be “The Pocket” -  a type of  long bag, usually hidden under a skirt and tied round the waist. We will look at how these were constructed and used and make our own which will be unique to you  and which might be patchworked, heavily stitched or make use of appliqued motifs.    These projects  will give you plenty of scope for using a variety of techniques to make your huswif and pocket  personal, use imagery which you are drawn to and stitch styles you love.  You may prefer to work with the materials you have brought in a less prescribed way  way and Mandy will try and facilitate your vision and ideas . There will be inspirational examples to see of Mandy’s work and you will  enjoy working alongside other people who share your passion for needle, thread and cloth.
